A big picture book that is perfect for shared reading infront of the whole classroom.  This book shows the 7 continents of the world and how they are all placed together on the world map.

  • The Raft - By Jim LaMarche

Nicky is dropped off at his grandmother's place located in the middle of nowhere alongside a river.  Nicky is uncomfortable at the thought of living with his grandma and getting used to her ideas of fun.  However, over the course of his stay, grandma's ideas of fun turn out to be an adventure.  Nicky is turned into a humble participant of nature sailing down the river in a raft and observing its wonders.

  • The Mountain that Loved a Bird - By Alice McLerran

Old Mountain is a strong mountain that sits in the dessert alone.  One day a bird named Joy crosses the desert and sits on Old Mountain and entertains him for awhile.  Old Mountain wants Joy to return but she cannot stay with him because he has no food and water.  Joy makes a promise to Old Mountain, and over time Old Mountain becomes suitable for Joy to stay.

  • Mammoths on the Move - By Lisa Wheeler

The best way to end boredom is to do something.  As five monkey children get bored their mom sends them on a list of chores that end up becoming enjoyable and rewardable.  The book has comical illustrations that help young readers keep track and interest in the story.

  • The Light of Christmas - By Richard Paul Evans

In the snow covered mountains lies the town of Noel.  This town has a Christmas tradition of lighting a torch next to the town Christmas tree.  The Keeper of the Flame is the only person bestowed with the honor of lighting the torch.  A young boy, Alexander, will be given the priveledge to be the Keeper of the Flame due to not giving much, but by giving well.

A short story about lively pumpkins who use their various imaginations to find the purpose in a misplaced pumpkin stem.

This story shows the importance of keystone creatures such as the wolf and the roll they play in keeping order within their environment.  Stereotypes lead to misconceptions about the character of the wolf, and this book teaches us not to make final judgements about things we don't know.

Some tasks can only be accomplished in teams.  Officer Buckle provides the materials and Gloria delivers the theatrics.  Both must work together to deliver their effective message of safety to the town of Napville.

  • The Searcher and Old Tree - By David McPhail

The Searcher and Old Tree live together in the wilderness.  When the Searcher leaves to go find food, Old Tree will always be there to welcome him back.  As terrible things come to harm the Searcher, Old Tree will use its strength to protect the Searcher from any harm.  The Searcher finds that Old Tree is more than a home, it is a friend.

Moses is a mouse sent out by his family to gather provisions for winter.  As the rest of the family brings back important items for winter Moses brings back nothing.  Or did he?  Instead Moses brings to the family something different, enjoyment and good times for the family.

  • Bird-Bonkers Stanley - By Griff

Stanley is a curious boy who wants to find a way to fly out of the cold weather to somewhere warm.  He takes an interest in birds and goes through the different types of birds that could possibly fly him to warmer weather.  Stanley settles on the idea of taking a plane to fly and brining along his pigeon friend Gordon.

  • The Adventures of Connie and Diego - By Maria Garcia

This book is a bilingual book written in English and Spanish.  Connie and Diego are born different and they start to feel like outcasts when their own family won't stop laughing at them.  Connie and Diego run away in hope of finding acceptance amongst the animals.  The lion offers them a chance to see things differently and for the first time Connie and Diego realize they are human.  With a new found belief in themselves they make their way back home.

  • Cloud with a Chance of Meatballs - By Judi Barrett

The town of Chewandswallow is subject to a strange phenomena of food raning down from their sky.  This is of course a great beneift for the town because they don't have to worry about going hungry.  However, too much of a good thing can turn bad as a storm of food begins to rain down on the town.  Everything is best if it is done in moderation, for both food and the weather.

  • Rumpelstiltskin's Daughter - By Diane Stanley

The fairy tale of Rumpelstiltskin usually ends with the miller's daughter being rescued and escaping from the King's Castle.  The story is extended to Rumpelstiltskin marrying Maredith (the miller's daughter) and having a daughter of their own named Hope.  Hope is later captured by the King like her mother and forced to make gold.  Hope is a smart person and thinks out a plan to coerce the King into sharing his wealth with the people.  Hope brings hope to the kingdom.

  • The Princess and the Moon - By Daisaku Ikeda

Sophie is a girl on her way of developing bad characteristics.  The moon takes notice of Sophie's bad behavior and sends the Moon Rabbit to escort her to the land of the moon.  As Sophie interacts with the people of the moon and is guided by the Moon Rabbit, Sophie learns how to become a princess by transforming her character into a good one.
